2013 Santa Visit

Wee went a little early this year to visit the Man in the Red Suit.  Chloe had seen his chair set up in the mall a week ago and I told her that Santa would be there after Thanksgiving.  She woke up this morning asking about going to the mall.  She was so excited.  I figured since it was Black Friday most people would be shopping and Santa wouldn't be very busy.  I was right we got there and there was no one in line.  Chloe ran into Santa arms, she was so excited.  She gave him the biggest hug I wish I had thought to bring the video camera.  Santa asked her what her name was, Chloe's response was "Oh Santa, you are teasing me you know my name"  She wanted to know why his beard wasn't long and white (it was a little gray) He responded with Mrs. Clause made him trim it shorter but he would tell her that Chloe wanted it longer.  He asked her what she wanted for Christmas, She told him she wanted Jingle and Bell, (they are husky dogs that Hallmark has a book and a movie about) she said she also wanted to cash register since hers broke.  She was sad to leave, I think she would have been happy spending the whole day with Santa.

Here is the picture and the previous years for some comparison.  I love looking back she has grown so much from that first year.

I had to promise we would come back before Christmas to visit again.

A New Start

I have gotten away from blogging because it was becoming a bit tedious.  But as C grows I realize that the blog is our photo album, our scrap book, our way to go back and remember the way things were.   So I have decided to start blogging again.  I wanted to have something that was more a family blog than a waiting to adopt blog or a boy C is cute blog. So I decided to start all over and I created the O'Huffman Clan blog.

The name comes from an adventure Jim and I found our selves on many years ago. We were living in California and we were traveling along the coast up to Washington one spring, when the road we need to take was closed.  We were trying to find our way around the closed road that would not take us too far out of our way.  We stopped at a local market to get directions and a map.  Our first clue that we should not take the mans advice was that he came out to look at our car before telling us about a "shortcut"   The "shortcut"  was anything but short.  It was a gravel road that was probably not even public, but there were no signs telling us otherwise, that was no wider than a single car in most places.  But we were young and not smart.

So we followed a few other cars and other cars followed us down a road that was to get us where we needed to be.  I believe it was a about a 20 mile trip that took us about 3 hours.  About 20 minutes in I had to go pee, which would have been fine if it had not been so bump, windy and long.  Eventually I had to go so bad we started joking about finding knocking on one of the doors of the houses in this remote area and asking to use the facilities.  All the mailboxes we saw had Irish names so we figured we show up and claim we were long lost cousins, the O'Huffman's. I ended up making it to the other side and we found a gas station, to use the restroom at, where they told us that the folks that live in those parts are more likely to shoot first and ask questions later, good thing the O'Huffmans stayed in their car.

Looking back it may have not been the wisest decision to take the road hardly ever traveled except the day the interstate was closed but it is a part of our story.  Ever since that day we have been the O'Huffmans at heart.
